Tennis Tabbed as Preseason Favorite

CLEVELAND, Ohio-In the Mid-American Conference preseason poll the Marshall women?s tennis team is tied with Eastern Michigan as the preaseason favorite. The poll was conducted among the head coaches of the MAC schools.
The Herd and the Eagles are tied for first place with 75 points and four first-place votes each. However, it was Marshall that received four votes to win the tournament championship, to the Eagles one vote.
Coming in third place was MAC rival Western Michigan with 65 points and two votes for tournament winner. Miami receiving 56 points, placing fourth and one vote for tournament winner. Fifth place went to Ball State with 44 points.
Marhsall will host Pittsburgh and in-state rival West Virginia Saturday, February 23 at the Huntington Tennis Club. The matchess will be at 11 am and 3 pm respectively. The Herd defeated both the Panthers and the Mountaineers last season.
Between the matches the Marshall players will be available to autograph schedule posters for all youth in attendance.
Playing for the Mountaineers this season are Charleston native Lauren Haddox and Huntington native Jenny Watkins.
The Herd is currently 2-3 overall on the season and 0-0 in MAC play. The first MAC match-up for the Herd will be March 22, when they take on Buffalo at home at 1 pm at the Marshall tennis courts located behind the Henderson Center.
