Huntington, W.Va.-Marshall?s Nichole Corrigan (Corona, Calif.) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, while teammate Randi Nielson (Tucson, Ariz.) grabbed MAC East Pitcher of the Week honors.
Corrigan, a senior second baseman, hit .500 as the leadoff hitter for the Herd, going 8-16 on the weekend. She accounted for six runs and one triple as Marshall went 3-3 at the University of Georgia Bulldog Classic. Registering at least one hit in each game, Corrigan tallied three runs, one triple and two steals in the Herd?s match-up with East Tennessee State. With the pair of steals against ETSU, Corrigan brought her theft total to four on the weekend.
Neilson earned her first collegiate win as a true freshman with a 4-2 win over Appalachian State. Neilson tossed a no-hitter, throwing a perfect game through six innings. In 11.1 innings pitched, Neilson allowed five hits and registered 10 strikeouts.
The Herd, now 3-8, will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. this weekend to compete in the Frost Invitational Tournament. Marshall will kick off the tournament against the University of Illinois on Friday at 12:15 p.m.
