Tennis Claims First MAC Match of Year

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University tennis team defeated the University at Buffalo, 7-0 and Duquesne University, 7-0 today at the Huntington Tennis club.

Against the Bulls The Herd won all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point and the 1-0 lead. The duo of Anna Mitina and Alice Sukner cruised to a 8-0 win at No. 1 singles against Karen Maynard and Shani Amarasinghe. Danielle Hock and Joelle Good handed Jennifer Wong and Michaela Kollarova a 8-0 loss at the No. 2 spot. Ashely Kroh and Olivia Hill completed the sweep with a 8-2 win against Kendra Pyke and Anne Schule at the No. 3 position.

Marshal then won all six singles. Mitina defeated Maynard 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Sukner defeated Michaela Kollarova 6-1, 6-0 to win at the No. 2 spot. Good, Hock and Kroh all won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Lille Nzudi defeated Wong 6-1. 6-1.

The No. 1 team of Mitina and Sukner came off the court with a 8-3 win over Leia Zingone and Katie Riedinger. The duo of Hock and Good lost a close doubles match to Alina Klinova and Marina Zelenovic, 9-8. At No. 3 Nzudi and Kroh defeatedCarrie Nygard and Sarah Shanahan, 8-0.

In singles, Marshall won all six matches. Mitina claimed No. 1 by defeating Alina Klinova, 6-2, 6-0. Sukner defeated Leia Zingone, 6-0, 6-1 to claim No. 2 singles. At the No.3 spot Nzudi defeated Marina Zelenovic, 1-2, ret. At No. 4 singles Kroh defeated Carrie Nygard 6-0, 6-0. Hock defeated Lauren DeMeyer, 6-1, 6-0 to claim the No. 6 spot.

The Herd is now 8-4 overall and 1-0 in Mid-American Confernce play.

Tomorrow the Herd will take on UNC-Charlotte at 9am at the Huntington Tennis club in Barboursville then will compete against the Akron Zips at 1:00 on the Marshall tennis courts.
