Cincinnati, Ohio--The Marshall men and women's Track and Field teams fared well this weekend at the University of Cincinnati's Bearcat Invitational. Leading the way for the Herd was Casey Batey, who won the 3000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 8:52:01, an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
Celeste Simpson broke her own school record in the 400 meters with a time of 56.09, while Simpson, Michelle John, Zedmailia Wolfe, and Andrea Perry broke the school record for the 4 X 400 meter relay with a time of 3:51.83. Stephanie Eastman placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:18.26, while Erin Compton had two more impressive showings in the Discus and Hammer Throw. Compton placed second in each event, with distances of 44.62 and 47.04 meters, respectively.
Other notable performances were from Aaron Trammell, who won the men's shot put with a distance of 15.53 meters. Andy Burchfield finished second in the discus with a throw of 48.9 meters, while Josh Sowers placed second in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 53.00 meters.
Both teams return to action in two weeks when they travel to Oxford, Ohio, to participate in the Redhawk Invitational sponsored by Miami University.
