4/12/2002
Huntington, W.Va.?Marshall University volleyball coach Mitch Jacobs has inked his first recruit with the Thundering Herd with the signing of Katie Stein, a 5?9 setter from Sussex, Wisconsin. Stein is eligible to compete for Marshall in the fall of 2002.
?We are very excited to have a player like Katie Stein?s background come play for the Herd,? said Marshall coach Mitch Jacobs. ?She brings us depth at the setter?s position, and high-level experience on a very good club team. We look forward to Katie being a part of Marshall?s program for the next four years.?
Stein, slated to graduate in May, 2002 from Hartland Arrowhead High School, is a four-year varsity letterman in volleyball who led her team to the Wisconsin State Volleyball Tournament for the first time in her school?s history this past season. She was a varsity co-captain her junior and senior years, while being named to the first-team All-Classic 8 Conference team in 2000-01 and 2001-02. She was also awarded All-State honors her senior year. Stein also excelled at the club level, where she helped set her club team, the Milwaukee Sting, to two appearances in the national tournament and another appearance this spring in three years of competition. This year, the Sting won the Indianapolis Qualifier in the Club Division, an event with 96 teams participating. She also participated on the All-Star team at the Nike High Performance Camp at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
