Nationally-Ranked Toledo Leads Marshall Invitational Field After Day One

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The University of Toledo recorded rounds of 289 and 296 (585) to gain a three stroke lead over second place Illinois, and out pace the rest of the field, Friday at the 33rd annual Marshall Invitational.
Toledo, ranked 11th in the latest Golf Digest/Sagarin Rankings, placed four golfers in the tournament?s top 20, despite windy and cold conditions at the Guyan Golf & Country Club. The Rocket?s David Jones shot rounds of 74 and 72 to finish the day tied for 8th at 146, while Sean McTernan shot a 147 to finish tied for 14. UT?s Brad Heaven and Alan Murray both fired 148 to finish tied for 17th.
The Rockets are followed by Illinois at 588, Kentucky at 591, and Ohio State, Ohio and Eastern Kentucky at 593.
Ball State University?s Kenny Cook is the top individual through two rounds with a one under par 141. Kentucky?s John Holmes is second at 142, followed by Geoff Lound of Illinois and Andrew Chapman of Michigan who both recorded two-round totals of 144.
Marshall finished the day in a tie with Iowa for 10th place at 602. The Thundering Herd?s top performer thus far is senior Aaron Williams. The New Boston, Ohio native is tied for 22nd at 149 (+7).
The third and final round of the tournament is schedule to get underway at 7:30 Saturday morning with the first groups of golfers teeing off on the #1 and #10 tees. Each group of golfers will tee off in 10-minute intervals, with the final groups scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m.
The possibility of a frost delay exists for the tomorrow?s third round. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.
