Nassau, Bahamas-The Marshall University men?s soccer team used three early goals to defeat the Under-20 Bahaman National Team 3-0 in an exhibition match today. The match was the first of two exhibition games to be played between the two teams.
?I was really pleased with our team?s effort and conditioning,? head coach Bob Gray said. ?We were able to withstand the heat and were consistent with our offensive pressure.?
Marshall jumped out early on the under-20 team, scoring their first goal five minutes into the match. Senior Robert Ngumire put the Thundering Herd on the board when his shot from 15 yards flew past the goalkeeper into the lower left hand corner of the net.
The Thundering Herd stretched the lead to 2-0 when sophomore Rob Clouse scored on a blast from the top of the penalty box in the 27th minute.
Sophomore Michael Barbera ended the scoring for MU when he made a run down the left side of the field and scored by chipping the ball over the keeper into the back of the net.
The two teams did not score in the second half, and Marshall cruised to the 3-0 victory.
Senior Matt Salmon and sophomore Jeremy Williams combined in net to record the shutout.
