RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 12-ranked Marshall Men's Soccer team (12-4-5) saw its season come to an end in a 2-0 loss in Raleigh to the 15th-seeded NC State Wolfpack in the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Second Round on Sunday evening.
"I'm very proud of our guys," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "Everyone knows we had a crazy amount of injuries this season, but our guys battled through. I thought we did everything we planned today, and we're unlucky. Our seniors were absolute class and represented Marshall amazingly. I'm so proud to be associated with this team. Our fans travelled really well. Seeing all the green in the stands, gives us such a lift. Thank you Herd Nation!"
NC State struck early in the second minute as Donavan Phillip scored off a Riley Moloney assist. The Herd settled defensively as Eijin Magota made a trio of stops between the 11th and 16th minutes to keep the deficit at one.
In the second half, the Wolfpack doubled their lead in the 59th minute on an unassisted effort from Moloney. The Herd forced Logan Erb to make a pair of saves in the second half on shots by Larry Noel and Louie Salkeld, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Joao Alves provided a full-match effort at the back, maintaining discipline as Marshall played with urgency. Magota finished with five saves on the night. NC State finished with a 15-7 edge in total shots, including a 7-3 margin in shots on goal.
