Women's Soccer Picked to Finish Fourth in the MAC

CLEVELAND, OH-The Marshall University women?s soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the regular season by league coaches in the 2002 preseason poll. The Herd received 117 points, placing them behind Miami University, Ohio University and Eastern Michigan University respectively.
All-MAC first team member Lauren Scott will return to lead her team into the 2002 season. The junior defender was the anchor of MU?s record setting defense last season that allowed only 15 goals in 19 contests. Marshall also returns senior midfielder Lindsey Jayjack, who had five goals and six assists for the Herd last season and senior defender Kelly Kennedy.
?I think we are going to surprise a lot of people this year,? Scott said. ?It is a pretty good ranking, but by the end of the year we will have earned more respect than that.?
Marshall is expecting big things this season as they are coming off thE best season in the history of the program. The Herd set numerous team records on their way to an 11-7-1 overall record and a 7-5-1 mark in the MAC. The squad finished fifth in the conference on the regular season and earned it?s first ever post season berth.
