Herd Volleyball Drops Three This Weekend at Illinois State

The Marshall Thundering Herd dropped to 0-3 on the season with losses to Alabama on Friday three games to one, and host Illinois State 3-1 and Florida State 3-0 on Saturday. Alabama won the GMC Barker Classic Saturday with a win over Illinois State in four games.
"We lost three matches this weekend, and that looks horrible on paper," said first year coach Mitch Jacobs. "But, we played well against some top notch opponents. We played good matches, but we had some serious lapses that turned into big runs. I'm extremely happy with our effort, however."
The Herd lost to Alabama 30-25, 22-30, 21-30, and 25-30. Grace Jones (Lakeland, Fla.) and Heidi Kuethe paced Marshall with seven kills apeice. MU capitalized on Tide serving errors to take the first game, but could not hold off late Alabama runs to take control of the match.
In game one of Saturday's play, the Herd once again fought hard against a tough team in a hostile environment, but eventually fell to the host Redbirds 33-31, 23-30, 21-30, and 22-30.
The Herd's final opponent of the day was Florida State, who swept the Herd 30-32, 23-30, 21-30. Heidi Kuethe (Normal, Ill.), capped off her homecoming with an eight kill performance, which led MU.
Marshall continues tournament play when they travel to UNC-Greensboro next weekend. They take on UNC-Greensboro on Friday, and High Point University and Winthrop on Saturday.
