Men's Soccer Blanked by New Mexico 3-0

Las Vegas, Nev.-The Marshall University men?s soccer team fell for the second straight time at the UNLV Tournament, losing to the University of New Mexico 3-0. With the loss, Marshall falls to 0-2 on the season. UNM improved to 2-0.
?Obviously, we were disappointed in the way we played this weekend,? head coach Bob Gray said. ?Hopefully, we were able to learn something from this experience and we will be able to regroup.
New Mexico opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Lance Watson took a pass from Matt Chavez and beat MU goalie Matt Salmon.
After taking the 1-0 lead into halftime, the Lobos opened up a 2-0 lead when Chavez scored off a pass from Watson.
The Lobos finished the scoring in the 87th minute when Ben Ashwill took a pass from Eric Carlson and scored to make the final 3-0.
The Thundering Herd only managed one shot on goal and were out-shot in the match 8-5. Salmon made three saves in goal for MU.
Marshall will return to action on September 6, when they take on High Point University in High Point, NC, at 7:00 p.m. The Thundering Herd will host Marietta College on September 10, at 7:00 p.m. in the home opener at Sam Hood Field.
