Herd Beat Elon, Advance Match Win Streak To Four

Cleveland, Ohio--The Marshall volleyball team (4-3), backed by a season high .364 hitting percentage, defeated the Elon Phoenix, 30-17, 30-17, and 30-21 in the first match of the Medical Mutual Cleveland State Invitational. The win pushed the Herd match win streak to four.

The Phoenix (2-6) could not overcome a hot-hitting Marshall team, which committed only 12 errors in 99 total attempts for the match. Nickie Sanlin (Fr., Fairview Heights, Ill.) led the MU attack, knocking down 13 kills, with only two errors, in 24 attempts (.458). Isabell Anderer (Jr., Sinsheim, Germany), who also saw some time at libero in game three, was next on the team in kills with 11. Grace Jones (Sr., Lakeland, Fla.) hit .500 for the match, posting nine kills in 18 attempts with no errors, while junior Andrea Kastein (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 39 assists for the Thundering Herd.

Marshall returns to action this afternoon at 5 p.m. when they take on St. Francis (PA) University.
