Men's and Women's Soccer to Host Doubleheader

9/13/2002

Huntington, W.Va.-The Marshall University men?s and women?s soccer teams will host a doubleheader at noon on Sunday, September 15, at Sam Hood Field. In the opener, the women?s soccer team will face Xavier University. Following the women?s game, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the men?s soccer team will face Robert Morris University. Following the men?s contest, fans will have the opportunity to meet the men?s soccer team and receive autographed posters.

?We really look forward to playing a doubleheader with the women?s team because it provides an opportunity for the fans to see two quality teams,? head men?s soccer coach Bob Gray said.

The men?s soccer team enters the contest with a two game winning streak and a record of 2-2-0 overall. Robert Morris enters with a record of 2-2-1.

Robert Morris owns the series lead over the Thundering Herd 4-1-1. The last meeting came in 1999 when Robert Morris defeated Marshal 1-0 in Morgantown, W.Va.

?Robert Morris is a quality opponent who won their conference championship last season,? Gray said. ?It will be a tremendous challenge for our team.?

The women?s soccer team, currently 2-1-0 and facing the University of Akron tonight, own a 1-0 series lead over Xavier. The only meeting came last season, with the Thundering Herd defeating the Muskateers 1-0. Xavier enters the contest with a record of 2-3.

Admission to both contests is free.
