Lindsey Stelter scored two goals to help the Herd past the Huskies of Northern Illinois on Sunday.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall University Women?s Soccer Team snapped their two game losing streak by drilling Northern Illinois University, 6-1 on Sunday at Sam Hood Field.

?We all came out with intensity from the start,? junior midfielder Lindsey Stelter said. ?The entire team played well and we are going to build off this win.?

Freshman Ashley Schillig (New Albany, OH) had a big day for the Herd as she posted the first hat trick of her Marshall career. She started the scoring in the 19th minute off a nice pass from Lindsey Jayjack (Dublin, OH). The two paired up again in the 35th minute to make the score 2-0 in Marshall?s favor. Ellerie Karl (Oakwood, OH) joined Jayjack in the 37th minute to assist Schillig on her third goal of the match, all in the first half.

The Herd didn?t let up after the half as defender Lauren Scott (Hilliard, OH) blasted the ball past the Northern Illinois goalkeeper to make the score 4-0. Jaime Gruber (Hudson, OH) earned the assist on the play.

Stelter (Dayton, OH) finished off the scoring for Marshall. Stelter came through on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute and immediately knocked home another goal off a pass from Gruber in the 75th minute.

Chanelle Crosby scored the lone goal of the match for Northern Illinois (2-5-0/0-2-0) as she slipped the ball in the goal at the 81:35 mark.

Marshall improved its record to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the Mid-American Conference with the win. The Herd will return to action at Sam Hood Field on Sunday, September 29th in a non-conference match-up with the University of Evansville at 1:00 p.m.
