Kuethe Named East Division Co-Player of the Week

9/30/2002

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? Thundering Herd Outside Hitter Heidi Kuethe was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week for her role in Marshall?s three victories this past week over Morehead State, Canisius, and Buffalo. Kuethe is the first Herd player to be recognized as a player of the week since 1999, when Wendy Williams won defensive player of the week honors.

Kuethe, a 5?11 senior from Normal, Ill., shares this week?s East Division Player of the Week honor with Ohio?s Laura Hageman. Kuethe helped the Thundering Herd to wins over Morehead State, Canisius and Buffalo, the latter two coming on the road. In the three matches, the senior hit .492 (35-5-61) and averaged 3.18 kills, 3.00 digs, 1.73 blocks and 0.64 aces per contest. Kuethe had 14 kills, 12 digs and seven blocks against Morehead State, then had 11 kills, nine digs and four blocks to go with a .529 hitting percentage versus Canisius. She then finished the week with 10 kills, 12 digs, a career-best eight blocks and five aces against Buffalo.

Marshall returns to action against Ohio, who brings a four match win streak against the Herd, on Wednesday in Mid-American Conference play. The match begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
