Women's Tennis Falls to 18th Ranked William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.-The Marshall University women?s tennis team dropped their first match of the season to William & Mary 7-0 earlier today. The loss moves the Thundering Herd?s record to 2-1 while William & Mary, the 18th ranked team in the country, goes to 1-0 on the year.
To open the match, the two teams split the first completed doubles matches, with the W&M tandem of Megan Muth and Lingda Yang teaming up to defeat Marshall?s Danielle Hock and Megan Skalsky, 8-1. Jessica Johnson and Alice Sukner teamed up for the only Marshall victory on the day when they defeated Kate Boomershine and Candice Fuchs 8-1.
However, the Tribe clinched the team doubles point when Kari Olsen and Amy Wei won 8-5 over Ashley Kroh and Lille Nzudie.
W&M dropped just one set in the singles matches, as the Tribe swept the six singles matches to complete the shutout. Results of the six singles matches are listed below.
Marshall will return to action next weekend with a pair of home matches against nationally ranked teams. On Friday, January 24, the Thundering Herd will face the University of Virginia at 3:00 p.m. The weekend will conclude with a match against the University of Kentucky at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25. Admission to the matches is free and will be held at the Huntington Tennis Club.
