Virginia Tops Women's Tennis 6-1

Huntington, W.Va.-The Marshall University women?s tennis team fell to the University of Virginia, ranked 54th in the country, 6-1 in action at the Huntington Tennis Club. With the loss, the Thundering Herd drop to 2-2 on the season while Virginia improves to 2-1 on the year.
To start the match, Marshall was able to split the first two doubles contests of the day as the Marshall team of Lille Nzudie and Ashley Kroh defeated Lauren Bruch and Kristen James 8-3. However, the Cavaliers responded when Dora and Marta Bechliwanis defeated Joelle Good and Danielle Hock 8-3.
The Cavaliers earned the doubles point when the team of Henriette Williams and Jennifer Tuchband defeated Jessica Johnson and Alice Sukner. 8-5. The loss was the first time the tandem, ranked 35th in the country, dropped a match to an unranked opponent this season.
After losing the doubles point to Virginia, Marshall managed only one singles victory as the Cavaliers went on to a 6-1 victory.
Hock, playing in the number five position, managed the only point for the Thundering Herd as she defeated Bruch 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.
Johnson, playing in the number one slot, and Kroh, was the only other Thundering Herd players to win a set during singles play. After winning the first set, Johnson fell to Williams 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The Cavaliers swept the other four matches as Tuchband defeated Sukner 6-2, 6-4; Lori Stern defeated Nzudie 6-3, 6-4; James defeated Good 6-2, 6-4; and, Dora Bechliwanis defeated Kroh 6-1, 6-1.
Marshall moves on to face the University of Kentucky at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, at the Huntington Tennis Club. Admission to the match is free.
