Women's Tennis Falls to 14th Ranked Kentucky

Huntington, W.Va.-The Marshall University women?s tennis team dropped their second consecutive match against a nationally ranked foe when they lost 7-0 to the University of Kentucky, ranked 14th in the country, in action at the Huntington Tennis Club. With the loss, Marshall drops to 2-3 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 1-1 on the year.
The Thundering Herd opened with a victory in the doubles portion of the match; however, were unable to secure the doubles point when the Wildcats took the final two doubles matches.
The tandem of Jessica Johnson and Alice Sukner opened with an 8-6 victory over the Wildcats pair of Sarah Witten and Nathalie Roels.
Marshall was unable to secure the momentum as Kentucky grabbed the final two matches to earn the point. The Kentucky team of Amy Trefethen and Jill Buckley defeated Lille Nzudie and Ashley Kroh 9-7 while Shannon Stafford and Leigh Bradwell defeated Joelle Good and Danielle Hock 9-7.
While the Wildcats may have struggled through the doubles matches, they were able to sweep the singles matches from the Thundering Herd.
Marshall?s Johnson managed to capture the only set for the Thundering Herd; however she still fell to Kentucky?s Sarah Witten 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 in the number one position.
Kentucky was able to win every set in the other five matches as Buckley defeated Sukner 6-7, 7-6; Roels defeated Nzudie 6-0, 6-2; Trefethen defeated Good 6-1, 6-3; Stough defeated Hock 6-0, 6-2; and, Danielle Petrisko defeated Kroh 6-4, 6-4.
Marshall will look to end their three game losing skid when they face the University of Minnesota at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, in Minneapolis, Minn.
