RICHMOND, Ky. - The Marshall women's golf team had their highest finish in the two-year history of the program this weekend at the Eastern Kentucky University Fall Invitational, finishing fourth out of 16 teams with a two-day team total of 621. Tennessee Tech claimed the team title with a 609.
After leading the tournament after the first day of play, the Herd put together another solid team effort, only to see Tennessee Tech put together a scorching team score of 300 in the final round to clinch the title. Marshall's score of 314 is the second-best round in the history of the program; MU's first round score of 307 is the only better total.
Freshman Allyson Hatcher (Wheeling, W.Va.) finished in 6th place overall with a two-day score of 150 (76-74) to lead all Marshall golfers. Amber Churchill (Dublin, Ohio), also a freshman, tied for ninth with a 153 (74-79), while sophomore Sheena Caron (Bolt, W.Va.) ended up tied for 22nd with a score of 158 (81-77). The Herd's final scoring entry came from Carling Dickey (New Castle, Ind.), who shot a 160 (76-84).
