HUNTINGTON, W.Va ? Marshall will take on Ball State and Miami at home this weekend in crucial Mid-American Conference action at Sam Hood Field. Note: Due to inclement weather at Sam Hood Field, the scheduled WMUL-FM broadcast of the Ball State/Marshall game was cancelled.

The Herd will battle Ball State on Friday at 7 p.m. before inviting the Miami Redhawks for a match on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Marshall is fresh off a win at Central Michigan. The Herd took down the Chippewas 3-2 after a Sarah Gupton (Richmond, IN) goal less than two minutes left put Marshall up for good.

"We are all very excited to be home," head coach Chris Kane said. "We are looking to play 180 minutes of good soccer this weekend."

Ball State brings a 7-5-2 (4-3-1 MAC) record into Friday?s match. Miami will visit Ohio University prior to making the trip to Huntington on Sunday. The RedHawks are 4-7-2 (3-5-1).

All games at Sam Hood Field are free to the public.

GAME NOTES

Sophomore Shooters
Sophomore Cara Hemmerich (Dublin, Ohio) added a goal to her team leading tally this weekend. The forward?s goal at Central Michigan gave her three for the year and a team-best seven points.
Fellow second year player Jaime Gruber (Hudson, Ohio) remains atop Marshall?s shot list. The forward has 17 shots this season.

Helping the Cause
Senior Danielle Lowther (Grand Haven, Mich.) leads the Herd in assists this year. The midfielder had two assists this weekend at Central Michigan. Her four assists already this season doubles her helper output in the past three years combined and pushes Lowther to eighth all-time.

Woods Back in Business
Junior Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, NY) was back in action for the Herd last weekend as they went 1-1 in MAC play. The goalkeeper is climbing the MAC leader list once again, already claiming the top spot in saves per game with 7.75.

The Opponents
Ball State is coming off a double overtime win at Buffalo and a close 1-0 loss at current MAC leader Kent State. The Cardinals are third in the conference in goals allowed with 13 for the season.

Marshall leads the all-time series 2-1-1. The last time the Herd took on Ball State, the Cardinals came up with a 3-4 overtime win.

Miami is currently 4-7-2 (3-5-1 MAC)and stands in third place in the MAC in goals, points and assists.

The RedHawks are led by MAC shot leader Ashley Swinehart. Swinehart is averaging 5.38 shots per game, while managing 11 goals and an assist in 2003.

Miami has their own ?Jen of All Trades.? Similar to Herd sophomore Jen Short (Mentor, Ohio), Miami freshman goalie Megan Ortner has played minutes in the midfield and at goal. It is the first time a player has played both positions in the same season for both schools.

The all-time series between the Herd and the RedHawks is deadlocked at 2-2 after a Miami 2-1 win in 2002.
