HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Thundering Herd men's soccer team heads to Lexington, Va. to face the Virginia Military Institute Keydets in a non-conference matchup on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Marshall (4-9-0, 1-3-0 MAC) has won their last two games and three out of the last four. Chris McKinney (Princeton, WV) is looking to extend his shutout streak. He shut out the last two opponents, Cleveland State and Buffalo. Sophomore Kirk Gibson (Allen, TX) and Freshman Michael McDonald (Luton, England) lead the team with seven points each.
VMI (3-10-0, 0-5-0 Big South) won their last match on Tuesday, defeating Washington and Lee by a score of 3-1. The win snapped a four-game losing streak. Mike Lloyd is the leading scorer for the Keydets with 11 points.
This is the 24th meeting between VMI and Marshall. Marshall leads the series 11-8-4. VMI was victorious the last time the schools met, winning 1-0 in Lexington in 2001.
VMI marks the end of a four-game road trip for the Herd. A win on Saturday would give them a 3-1 record for the trip. The team returns home on Tuesday to face Alderson-Broaddus. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. and admission is free. Log on to HerdZone.com for updates on men's soccer and all of the Marshall University teams.
