HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Mid American Conference shot leader Ashley Swinehart put her 12th goal of the season in the back of the net as Miami took a win from Marshall 2-0, Sunday at Sam Hood Field.

Swinehart knocked in the goal from the center of the box 16 minutes into the first half to give Miami the lead.

But it was Marshall that struck first.

Senior Ellerie Karl (Oakwood, Ohio) took a shot on goal that bounced off Miami keeper Megan Ornter ten minutes into the first half and found its way to fellow senior Stacy Wells (Monroe, Ohio) . Wells knocked in the goal but was called offsides.

"That was the story of our season," head coach Chris Kane said. "The offsides call was the turning point of the game.

The girls gave a good effort...we just had some unlucky breaks."

Marshall also saw a legitimate chance at a goal hit the crossbar early in the second half.

"It's a shame to lose a game this way," Kane said. "I am just hoping for a strong finish...no one quits on this team and I think you could see that today."

Marshall falls to 2-13-1 (2-7-1 MAC) while Miami advances to 5-8-2 (4-6-1 MAC).

The Herd winds up its regular season with two remaining games at home. Marshall will take on the Rockets of Toledo on Friday, October 24 at 7 p.m.
