Men's Soccer Wraps Up Home Schedule

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team will wrap up their home schedule this weekend when they face Bowling Green on Friday and Kentucky on Sunday at Sam Hood Field.

The Herd (5-10-0, 1-3-0 MAC) is coming off of their strongest performance of the year, beating Alderson-Broaddus 9-0 on Tuesday. Michael McDonald (Luton, England) and Peter Reush (Washington D.C.) both had five points in the win. A strong weekend by the team could move them as high as fourth in the conference.

Michael McDonald leads the team with 12 points (5 goals and 2 assists) followed by Kirk Gibson (Allen, TX) with ten points. The defense has been strong giving up only four goals and recording four shutouts over the last seven games dating back to Akron on October 3. The team is 4-3-0 over that stretch.

Bowling Green comes into the weekend with a record of 6-6-3 and 2-2-0 in the MAC. They are coming off of a 1-0 loss to Oakland on Tuesday night. Dustin Snyder is the leading scorer for the Falcons, tallying nine points (three goals and three assists) in 15 games. Bowling Green is one game ahead of Marshall for fourth place in the conference.

Friday's game will mark the tenth time that the Falcons and Herd will square off. Bowling Green leads the series 7-2. On their way to sharing the 2002 regular season MAC championship with Akron, the Falcons defeated the Herd 2-1. Marshall defeated Bowling Green in 2001, 1-0.

The University of Kentucky come into town on Sunday. The Wildcats sit second in the MAC with a record of 9-4-1 and 3-0-0 in the MAC. They have won their last two matches including a win against MAC leader Akron. The loss for Akron was their first MAC loss this season. Leading the way for the Wildcats is Jamal Shteiwi. He leads the team with 18 points.

Kentucky is currently 3-0 in the MAC. They are looking to win their final three conference games to win the regular season championship. They face Buffalo on Friday, Marshall on Sunday and travel to Northern Illinois on October 31 to finish up their conference schedule.

The Herd defeated the Wildcats in Lexington in 2002 by a score of 2-1 and lead the series against UK 11-7-1.

The game against Bowling Green starts at 5 p.m. and is Parents Night. The game is the start of a doubleheader with the women's team as they take on Toledo at 7 p.m. Senior Day will take place on Sunday against Kentucky and is also part of a doubleheader with the women. The women's team will take on Bowling Green at noon and will be followed by the men's game against Kentucky at 2:30 p.m. Admission to all home games is free. The doubleheader on Sunday marks the end of the home schedule for the men's and women's teams.
