HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - A goal by Karim Boukhemis (Huntington, WV) gave the Thundering Herd men's soccer team all they needed to defeat the Bowling Green Falcons.

Boukhemis scored at the 40 minute mark on an assist from Kirk Gibson (Allen, TX) to give the Herd (6-10-0, 2-3-0 MAC) a 1-0 lead. The defense stepped it up from there to preserve the win.

Marshall goalie Chris McKinney (Princeton, WV) made five saves in the game including a point blank shot by the Falcons (6-7-3, 2-3-0 MAC)to earn the shutout. The defense for the Herd, Michael Bourassa (Victoria, Canada), Paul Dirou (Nelson, New Zealand), Graham Prather (Richmond, VA) and Mike Barbera (Huntington, WV) , all played strong defensive games for Marshall, limiting Bowling Green to eight shots.

Marshall finished up the game with 14 shots. Michael McDonald (Luton, England) led the team with four shots. Jeremy Ashe (Cinnaminson, NJ) and Boukhemis each had three.

The Herd dominated play in the game and had many chances to score. Their best opportunity came when Firas Al-Samarraie (Malmoe, Sweden) was awarded a penalty kick near the end of the first half. The kick went off of the crossbar and the game remained tied at that point.

It was an exciting game as the Falcons generated some scoring chances in the final ten minutes of the game. It was a hard played game by both teams, and the intensity is shown by the foul count with Marshall having 19 and Bowling Green having 14.

Tonight's win for the Herd moved them into a tie with the Falcons for fourth in the MAC. A win Sunday against Kentucky would clinch fourth place.

Sunday will mark the end of the home and conference schedule for the Herd when they face the Kentucky Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. It is also senior day and the three seniors on the team will be honored for their achievements at Marshall. Admission is free.
