Football Hosts Kent State Saturday

10/6/2003

Marshall will be fighting for its first MAC win of the season when it hosts Kent State Saturday in front of a homecoming crowd at Marshall University Stadium.

Kent enters the game with a 3-3 overall record and is 2-1 in MAC play. The Flashes have already exceeded their win total of a year ago. The Golden Flashes have posted wins over UCF and Akron, but are coming off of a 34-17 loss to Ball State at home.

The Flashes are led by junior quarterback Joshua Cribbs. The Washington, D.C. area product entered the season looking to become the first player in Division I-A history with three 1,000-yard rushing and 1,000-yard passing seasons.

Marshall (2-3 overall, 0-1 MAC) is in need of a win in order to maintain control over its own destiny in the MAC East Division race - a loss to Kent State would give Marshall its second league loss of the year and put the Herd?s hopes of a seventh consecutive east division title in jeopardy.

Kent State leads the all-time series 18-15, however Marshall has won the last eight meetings between the two schools and head coach Bob Pruett is a perfect 6-0 against the Flashes. Marshall topped Kent State last season, 42-21, at Kent.

Marshall has won 10 consecutive homecoming games and is 50-43-8 in homecoming games all-time.

The game will not be televised, however a satellite feed with video, and audio from the ISP/Thundering Herd radio broadcast, will be available at Galaxy 11, Transponder 16 - KU band.
