Football Readies for ESPN2 Meeting with UCF

11/14/2003

Marshall will travel to Orlando, Fla., Wednesday to do battle with MAC East rival UCF before a national-television audience on ESPN2. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

The Thundering Herd (6-4, 4-2) is coming off of a disappointing, 45-6, loss at Miami that clinched the MAC East Division title for the RedHawks. Marshall, winner of five of the first six MAC Championships, will not take part in the MAC Championship game for the first time since the league moved to divisional play and Marshall joined the I-A ranks in 1997. The Thundering Herd, however is bowl eligible and could finish the season with a solid record of 8-4 if it can pick up wins against UCF and Ohio to close out the year.

Meanwhile, UCF (3-7, 2-4) will enter the contest under the direction of interim head coach Alan Gooch for the first time. Gooch replaces Mike Kruczek who was relieved of his duties two days following the Golden Knight?s 19-13 loss at Eastern Michigan and will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

UCF is 0-1 all-time vs. Marshall after last season?s 26-21 loss to the Thundering Herd in Huntington. The 2002 meeting was also the first MAC game for the Golden Knights and was televised nationally by ESPN2.
