Men's Soccer Heads To MAC Tournament
11/6/2003
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Marshall University men's soccer team will face the Western Michigan Broncos in the first round of the MAC tournament on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
Marshall enters the tournament as the sixth seed. WMU comes in as the third seed. The other tournament games taking place on Friday include #7 Buffalo taking on #2 Akron at 12:45 p.m. and #5 Northern Illinois facing #4 Bowling Green at 3 p.m.
This is the second meeting of the year between WMU and Marshall. The Broncos defeated the Herd, 4-1 on Sept. 26 in Huntington. Jeff Hughes had a hat trick in the game to give the Broncos the win. Marshall leads the series with WMU, 6-1-1.
Marshall is 4-6 in MAC tournament play since 1997. Last year, the Herd defeated Northern Illinois in the first round, but lost to Akron in the semifinals on penalty kicks.
If Marshall wins, they will face the winner of the Buffalo/Akron game on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. The winner of the NIU/BGSU game will face #1 Kentucky at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
