CLEVELAND, Ohio ? Junior goalie Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, NY) was named to the first team all-Mid American Conference team, announced at the 2003 MAC Women's Soccer Tournament Banquet on November 6 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Woods, who missed three weeks of the season with a broken thumb, put up big numbers in front of the Herd?s net this season, including a league leading 6.42 saves per game. She ended the year third in the MAC with 77 saves.
?We are thrilled that Ashleigh got this award,? head coach Chris Kane said. ?It is a testament to all the hard work she has put in and we are very excited to have her back for next season.?
Woods finds herself in elite company, as only two other Marshall players have ever taken home the award. Former MU forward Amanda McMahon gained first team honors in both 2000 and 2001 and departing senior defender Lauren Scott was named to the top team in 2001.
Miami?s Ashley Swinehart was chosen as MAC Player of the Year and after leading the Golden Flashes to a regular season co-championship, Rob Marinaro from Kent State was named Coach of the Year. Ohio midfielder Tiffany Horvath took home Freshman of the Year honors.
