Wichita State Leads After First Two Rounds of El Diablo

CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla.- The first two rounds of the El Diablo Intercollegiate hosted by Marshall University escaped predicted heavy rain to play all 36 scheduled holes of the first day of competition.

Wichita State University holds the lead after shooting 286 in the first round and 292 in the second round for a 578 total on the day. Wichita State has a 12 stroke lead over Colorado State who posted rounds of 291 and 299 for a total of 590 on the day. West Florida is a close third shooting 592 and Kent State of the Mid-American Conference is in fourth at 594.

The host Marshall team is 18th place in the 20 team field with a total of 619 after shooting 313 in the morning round followed by 306 in the afternoon.

The individual leader is Kenny Cook of Ball State University who is at 138 (six under par) after shooting rounds of 70 68.


Marshall was lead by junior Ben Minyard 77-69=146. Brad Tweel 76-80=156, Derek Hurwitch 80-77=157, Drew Whitten 80-81=161, and Ryan Stewart 85-80=165.

Sunday's final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a shot gun start.
