Women's Tennis Hosts Pair of Conference Foes This Weekend

Huntington, W.Va.-After starting the 2003 conference season with a victory over Miami (OH) University, the Marshall University women?s tennis team will look to pick up two more conference victories when they host the University of Akron and the University at Buffalo. The Thundering Herd will take on Akron at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, and Buffalo at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. Both matches will take place at the Henderson Center Tennis Courts.

The Thundering Herd are coming off a pair of close matches this past weekend and enter with a record of 6-6, 1-0 in conference. In their last two matches, Marshall dropped a 4-3 decision to the University of Texas at Arlington before defeating No. 59 Texas Christian University 4-3. For her performance in the two matches, Marshall?s Joelle Good was named Mid-American Conference women?s tennis player of the week.

Akron enters with a record of 3-7 overall, 0-2 in conference. The Zips are coming off a 4-3 loss to Eastern Kentucky University. The Thundering Herd has won the last eight in the series, including a 7-0 victory last year. The last Zips victory came in 1995, when they defeated Marshall 5-3.

Buffalo enters with a record of 6-6, 0-2 in conference play. The Bulls lost their last outing against Miami. Marshall has won all four meeting with the Bulls since their return to the MAC, including a 7-0 victory.

Admission to both conference matches is free. If, as forecast, inclement weather hits the area on Saturday, March 29, the match with Buffalo will be moved to the Huntington Tennis Club and will start as scheduled.
