Women's Tennis Falls to Virginia Tech 4-3

Blacksburg, Va. ? Stepping out of conference for a match with Virginia Tech University, the Marshall University women?s tennis team dropped a close 4-3 decision to the Hokies in action today.

Marshall opened by winning the doubles point; however, the Hokies claimed four of the six singles matches in order to get the victory. Virginia Tech?s Elissa Kinard defeated Alice Sukner 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 while the Hokies? Felice Lam won at No. 4 over Lille Nzudie 6-2, 6-4. Ginger Lowdermilk recorded Virginia Tech's other singles win with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win at No. 5 against Joelle Good.

In the Marshall victories, Virginia Tech?s Kristen Stubbs lost her No. 1 contest 6-4, 6-1 to Jessica Johnson and Zdenka Videnova (Sr., Skopje, Macedonia) fell 6-2, 6-2 to Ashley Kroh at No. 6.

In doubles action, Marshall won the doubles point as Hock/Johnson won at No. 1 over Kinard/Kramer 8-4 and Kroh/Nzudie picked up an 8-2 win at No. 2 over Lowdermilk/Stubbs.

Marshall will return to action this weekend to host three opponents. The Thundering Herd start with two matches on Friday, April 4, as they will take on Bowling Green State University at 1:00 p.m. and Morehead State University at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, April 5, Marshall will take on Ball State University at 1:00 p.m. All three matches will take place at the Henderson Center Tennis Courts.
