Women's Tennis Remains Perfect in Conference

DeKalb, Ill.-With a 6-1 victory over Northern Illinois University, the Marshall University women?s tennis team moved to a perfect 6-0 in the Mid-American Conference and remained atop the MAC standings. With the victory, their fourth straight, Marshall moves to 12-7 on the year.
The Thundering Herd opened by capturing the doubles point with victories at the number two and three positions. Ashley Kroh and Lille Nzudie teamed at the number two position to defeat Tanja Sukovic and Karrie Tyioran 8-4 while Danielle Hock and Meghan Skalsky defeated Branka Savic and Kristi McIntyre 8-6 to capture the victory in the number three position.
Marshall?s number one doubles tandem of Jessica Johnson and Alice Sukner lost to Cassie Drake and Erica Heshelman 9-7 in the number one doubles match.
Following the doubles victory, the Thundering Herd responded by winning five of the six singles matches to claim the 6-1 victory.
Marshall victories came at the number one, three, four, five and six positions. Johnson rebounded from her loss in doubles to defeat Savic 6-4, 6-3. In the number three position, Hock also recorded a straight set victory with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Sukovic.
Kroh recorded the most impressive victory on the day, a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Tyioran in the number four position.
Nzudie and Joelle Good completed the Marshall victory with wins at the number five and six position, respectively. Drake recorded the only Huskies singles victory on the day, defeating Sukner in the number two position.
Marshall will return to action on Saturday, April 12, when they face Western Michigan University at 1:00 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Mich.
