Women's Golf Program Adds Three

4/16/2003

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Director of Golf Joe Feaganes announced the addition of three student-athletes to the women's golf program Wednesday.

All three recruits will be eligible to compete in the 2003-04 season.

"We are very pleased with this recruiting class," Feaganes said. "These three girls, along with Meredith Crislip (signed in November), will all have an immediate impact on our golf program."

The three incoming recruits are Allyson Hatcher of Wheeling, W.Va., Amber Churchill of Dublin, Ohio, and Stacey Wagner of Harmony, Pa.

Hatcher is the West Virginia Girls Junior Player of the Year and the 2002 West Virginia Girls Junior Amateur Champion. The all-state selection led Wheeling Park to the West Virginia High School State title in 2002 and a third place finish in 2001.

Hatcher finished third in the 2001 W.Va. Women's State Amateur and followed that with a fourth place finish in 2002. In addition, to her athletic achievements, Hatcher boasts a 4.0 grade point average.

Churchill earned first-team, all-conference, all-district, and all-state honors as a standout at Dublin-Coffman High School. Churchill recorded a high school stroke average of 79 and was named the school's "Medalist of the Year."

She finished fifth in the state high school tournament, while helping Dublin-Coffman to a second place team finish. Churchill was also named the Central Ohio Junior Golf Association Player of the Year and is an AAU Junior Olympics bronze medalist.

Wagner comes to Marshall after a standout career at Seneca Valley Senior High School where she was a three-year letterwinner and team captain.

Wagner finished tied for second at the WPIAL Section Qualifier in 2002, was named the 2002 Tri-State Player of the Year, and won the state KPGA Boatwright Championship. She recorded a nine-hole high school stroke average of 39 and excelled in the classroom where she posted a 4.0 grade point average as a member of the National Honor Society.

"I am so proud of this class," Marshall assistant coach Meredith Knight said. "These girls are not only good players, but great students and people that will represent Marshall University well."
