Women's Tennis Achieves Second Highest Ranking in History
4/2/2003
Huntington, W.Va.-With the help of one of the toughest schedules in the Mid-American Conference, the Marshall University women?s tennis team has achieved the second highest ranking in school history in the latest poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In the latest ITA poll, the Thundering Herd come in as the 62nd ranked team in the nation.
The ranking is the highest for the Marshall program since 1997 when the team was ranked 61st in the country on April 1, 1997. The ranking ties the highest ranking achieved by last year?s NCAA tournament squad when they were ranked 62nd in the country on March 20, 2002.
MU is coming off a loss to the 61st ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. However, Marshall is still the only MAC school placed in the national rankings.
The University of Southern California and Stanford University are ranked one and two, respectively, in the current polls.
Marshall will return to action this weekend when they host Bowling Green State University and Morehead State University on Friday, April 4, at the Henderson Center Tennis Courts. The doubleheader is free and open to the public and will begin at 1:00 p.m.
