Marshall University will participate in its first-ever Mid-American Conference women's golf championship this weekend at Walden Ponds Golf Club in Indian Springs, Ohio.
Marshall, in its first season of competition since the 1980's, will go head-to-head with the eight other schools that sponsor the sport for the right to be called MAC Champion.
The Thundering Herd's all-freshman team is led by Bolt, West Virginia's Sheena Caron who recorded a team-best stroke average of 79.25 that ranks 12th overall in the MAC this year and second among league freshmen.
Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Marshall, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan sponsor the sport.
Walden Ponds (par 72, 5,843-yard course), roughly 30 minutes north of Cincinnati, is in its fourth year of hosting the event. MAC schools rotate as hosts of the three-day event, which is in its fifth year, and the University of Toledo is serving as this year's host.
The first day of championship play is scheduled to get underway on Friday at 8:00 a.m. The second round will be played on Saturday, with the third and final round set for Sunday.
