Volleyball Releases 2003 Schedule

4/25/2003

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.--Head coach Mitch Jacobs has announced the Thundering Herd's 2003 volleyball slate.

Non-conference tournaments fill Marshall's schedule in the early part of the year, with trips to Indiana State, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Colorado, and West Virginia University taking place in the month of September. In those tournaments, the Herd will meet the likes of Cincinnati, who has been to four consecutive NCAA tournaments, Oregon, and Colorado. In Morgantown, Marshall will take on Morehead State, Duquesne, and the host Mountaineers for the Golden Ball at the tournament's conclusion.

In conference play, the Herd play Ohio, Akron, 2002 MAC champion Ball State, 2001 MAC Champion Northern Illinois, Miami, Bowling Green, Buffalo, and Kent State within the friendly confines of the Cam Henderson Center. Marshall was 10-1 on their home floor in 2002.

Jacobs is pleased with the way the 2003 schedule turned out.

"We look forward to the challenges of a solid schedule," said Jacobs. "We're playing teams from the PAC 10 and Big 12, two of the best conferences in the country in 2002. It should give us a good idea of where we stand heading into conference play.

"Playing in West Virginia's tournament should be interesting, and the MAC should be better all around. Akron and Eastern Michigan are the only teams that lost quality starters."

Marshall plays its first of nine home games on Tuesday, September 23, in the Henderson Center.
