Women's Tennis Advances to Finals of MAC Tournament

Ypsilanti, Mich.-After a convincing 4-0 victory over the University of Toledo, the Marshall University women?s tennis team continued their march towards the NCAA Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Northern Illinois University in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Marshall will next face Eastern Michigan University on Sunday, April 26, for the conference championship.
Marshall opened the match by claiming the doubles point after victories in the number one and three positions. The doubles victories marked the 18th consecutive match the Thundering Herd have claimed the doubles point. Jessica Johnson and Alice Sukner revenged an earlier loss to Cassie Drake and Erica Heshleman with an 8-3 victory. Meghan Skalsky and Danielle Hock clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over Branka Savic and Kristi McIntyre.
After capturing the doubles point, Marshall advanced with impressive victories in the number one, three and five positions. Lille Nzudie led the way for the Thundering Herd by defeating Heshelman 6-2, 6-0 in the number five position. Hock made the score 3-0 with her 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tanja Sukovic. Johnson completed the victory with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Savic.
Marshall improves to 18-7 on the year and will face Eastern Michigan University for a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Earlier in the season, Marshall defeated EMU 6-1 to clinch the regular season championship.
