Jessica Johnson Named Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Cleveland, Ohio-Marshall University women?s tennis player Jessica Johnson has been named Mid-American Conference Women?s Tennis Player of the Week the conference office announced today. Johnson is the third Thundering Herd player to win the honor this season.
Johnson went a perfect 7-0 on the week in matches against Virginia Tech University, Bowling Green State University, Morehead State University and Ball State University. Her most impressive win of the week came when she defeated Kristin Stubbs of Virginia Tech 6-4, 6-1. Earlier in the week, Stubbs had defeated the No. 15 and No. 28 players in the country.
She also recorded two conference singles victories in the number one position over the course of the week, defeating the number one players from Ball State and Bowling Green.
In addition to going perfect in singles play, Johnson teamed with Alice Sukner to go 4-0 at the number one doubles position during the week. The 23rd ranked tandem cruised in all four matches, losing a total of only 15 games in the victories.
Johnson joins Ashley Kroh and Joelle Good as Thundering Herd players who have captured the weekly honor this year. In addition, Alice Sukner was named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week earlier this season.
Marshall will return to action on Friday, April 11, when they travel to DeKalb, Ill., to face Northern Illinois University.
