Marshall Track and Field Set To Compete At Bearcat Classic

5/2/2003

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.?The Marshall University track and field teams will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio Saturday to compete at the Bearcat Classic. The Thundering Herd athletes are hoping to gain some momentum after a shortened meet last weekend at Louisville.

Some of Marshall?s athletes have not competed in two weeks, due to the inclement weather in Louisville. It looked as though Marshall was going to produce another solid meet after Andrea Perry, Mike Jones and Zach Helm all placed in their respective events.

At the Penn Relays, Erin Compton continued her dominant senior season after she won the college women?s discus throw and qualified for the NCAA Regionals in her second event. Compton placed 10th in the hammer throw with a qualifying toss of 174-feet-9 inches. Compton was given the Dorothy Hicks Female Athlete of the Year Award, given to Marshall?s top female athlete, Wednesday night.

The men?s 4x400 meter and 4x100 meter relay teams both place fifth in their respective heats at the Penn Relays.

Marshall has two weeks left before the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The Thundering Herd will compete at the Indiana Invitational next week as a final tune up for the MAC Championships.
