Marshall Signs Pruett Through 2010

8/28/2003

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum announced today that head football coach Bob Pruett has signed a contract that will keep him at the school through the 2010 season.

?Coach Pruett?s contributions go far beyond just representing a high quality football program,? Marcum said. Pruett is the winningest active Division I-A head football coach in the nation with an overall record of 80-13 (.860 winning percentage) in seven seasons at Marshall.

During Pruett?s tenure, Marshall has won five Mid-American Conference championships, appeared in six consecutive bowl games (winning the last five), produced multiple National Football League draft picks that included two Heisman Trophy finalists, posted a 49-1 record in home games and been recognized by the American Football Coaches Association for graduating more than 70 percent of its football student-athletes five times.

?I am extremely excited about the new contract that connects me to Marshall through the end of the decade,? Pruett said.

Menis Ketchum, Chair of the Marshall University Board of Governors? athletic committee, said, ?We are very proud of the unparalleled success that Coach Pruett is having on and off the field at Marshall University. And, we?re delighted to have him as our head football coach through 2010. Coach Pruett?s base salary will remain the same, but there will be incentives in the contract that do not involve Marshall University appropriated funds. As part of Coach Pruett?s commitment to Marshall, he will receive a $250,000 incentive from private sources.?
