Quotes From Bob Pruett's Weekly Press Conference

9/16/2003

The following transcribed excerpts are from Marshall University head football coach Bob Pruett's weekly Tuesday press conference.

ON STAN HILL:

At this point right now Stan (Hill) is out. He is not expected to play. There is going to have to be significant improvement for him to play on Saturday. As of right now, Graham will start.

ON THE TOLEDO GAME:

We have to be a more physical team if we want to compete with the rest of the teams on our schedule like we were with the first two teams we played. (Against Toledo) We came out of the ball game bruised.

We just have to keep working on our blocking. We have got to get more physical.

There is an old philosophy in football you?ve got to get a hat on a hat ?when you don?t they are going get their hat on you.

Everyone has had a rough week. When you lose, you look for senior leadership from those juniors that have been playing as well. Losing is losing?it jolts me wherever it is.

The loss didn?t feel any different coming from Tennessee or Toledo.

ON SIMILARITIES BETWEEN KANSAS STATE AND MARSHALL:

I think there are a bunch of similarities?we are actually going to bring a bunch of administrators with us to check out all that they have done with their program. You can see their advancement in their athletic programs and how that has benefited their school and community. We (Marshall football) have approached it a little different than they have?

ON KANSAS STATE:

They remind me of Virginia Tech. They run some option, they work the running game?they?re a power, knock-you-down, smash mouth type of football team?they come out of a black and blue league. You have a good chance of coming out of there beat up.

You better have your big boy pads on, but on the same hand you have to bring them for league games just like you bring them to top ten teams.

The tough thing about them?you spread out. Defend the option and they?ll run the power and the isolation up the middle on you. You have got to go helmet to helmet on them.

ABOUT SPROLES:
The thing that really impresses me about him is that he does the same thing against Oklahoma and Nebraska that he does against UMass and California.

He is very good football player?he is very quick and very fast.

ABOUT COACH SNYDER:

I think that he has done one of the best jobs in college football. He took a perennial loser and built it into a consistent top ten team. He is fantastic and what their program has done is amazing.
