Cara Hemmerich netted two goals this weekend. |
KALAMAZOO, Mi -- Marshall sophomore Cara Hemmerich (Dublin, OH) netted her second goal of the weekend but the Herd fell short to Western Michigan 3-1.
The Broncos managed to squeeze a goal in the remaining seconds of the first half (44:47) to put Western up 1-0 at the half way mark.
But it was a Jen Short (Mentor, OH) pass that found Hemmerich to tie the match at 1-1.
Western then took control of the game with two goals in the games remaining ten minutes.
Marshall was outshot 21-6 on the day.
Western Michigan moves to 4-5-1, 3-2-0 MAC while Marshall drops to 1-8-1, 1-4-0 MAC.
Redshirt freshman Kai Nordness (Burnsville, MN) took the loss for the Herd at goal while contributing five saves.
"This loss is as much my fault as it is the team's," head coach Chris Kane said. "We have so few players right now and we were unable to put 11 players on the field that were fit enough for 90 minutes."
The Herd will look to regroup on September 28 when it returns home for a MAC matchup with Buffalo.
The game will kickoff at Sam Hood Field at 7 p.m.
