Volleyball Sweeps Radford 3-0

RADFORD, Va. ? Marshall used double-digit kill outputs from Tracey King (Miami, Fla.) and Amber Sims (Ney, Ohio) to sweep Radford University 3-0 in volleyball action Tuesday from the Dedmon Center by scores of 30-15, 30-26 and 30-22.

King registered 11 kills (.320 hitting percentage) and Sims had 10 kills (.526 hitting percentage) as the Thundering Herd upped their record to 11-6 on the season.

Marshall attacked the Highlanders (1-14) from the outset of the match, hitting at a .515 clip as a team in the first game for a quick 30-15 victory. Radford kept it close in game two even after a 10-4 Herd lead to tie the game at 10-10. MU capitalized on a 6-1 surge to go on to the 30-26 win.

The Herd?s .297 hitting percentage in game three allowed the team to get on the bus back to Huntington, W.Va., early following two five-game matches in their previous three contests prior to tonight's win.

Anja Wilk (Plate, Germany) notched eight kills for Marshall and contributed a match-high four block assists to help the Herd out-block Radford 9.5-1.0. Katie Stein (Sussex, Wis.) recorded 23 assists in the win.

Radford?s Sarah Gates collected a double-double for the Highlanders with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Marshall (1-1 MAC) will jump back into Mid-American Conference play on Saturday when it travels to Miami (Ohio) to take on the RedHawks at 7 p.m. from Millett Hall.
