- Box Score
CINCINNATI ? The Marshall University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-30, 27-30, 27-30) decision to the University of Cincinnati on Friday in the opening day of the Bearcat Invitational at Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats were lead by preseason All-Conference USA selection Julie Dupont?s match-high 20 kills and 17 digs. UC?s Rachel Torblaa registered a .579 hitting percentage with 11 kills to help improve the Bearcats? record to 4-1.
Nicole Michal (Louisville, Ky.) paced Marshall (2-2) with 10 kills while Nickie Sanlin (Fairview Heights, Ill.) recorded a .385 hitting percentage with seven kills and five digs. Katie Stein (Sussex, Wis.) and Ashley Barnard (Maumee, Ohio) led the Thundering Herd with 32 assists and 10 digs, respectively.
Cincinnati?s .515 hitting percentage in the first game of the match was too much for the Herd, who countered with a .256 hitting percentage for a 25-30 loss.
The Bearcats and New Mexico State, Marshall?s 11 a.m. opponent on Saturday, are both 20-win teams from 2002. Butler upended the Aggies in the first match of the invitational, 3-0 earlier in the afternoon on Friday. Following MU?s morning tilt, they will take on Butler at 5 p.m. in the Herd?s final match of the Bearcat Invitational.
