HUNTINGTON, WV-- A tough Hokie offense was too much to handle for the Herd as they fell 3-0 at Sam Hood Field Sunday afternoon.

Tech Goalies Mallory Soldner and Natasha Dirda held Marshall scoreless for 90 minutes with a combined seven saves.

Herd junior goalkeeper Ashleigh Woods had an impressive day herself making 10 big saves while taking the loss.

The loss was the first for head coach Chris Kane at home.

"I am definitely disappointed in today," Kane said. "We struggled on the offensive side again and we're just having to defend alot of the game."

Marshall was outshot 22-9 for the match.

With the win, Virginia Tech moves to 3-1, while the loss dropped Marshall to 0-4.

The Herd will look to boost the win column when they travel to Kent for their Mid American Conference opener on Friday, September 12.

"We open up with the MAC schedule on Friday and that is when it really counts," Kane said. "We learned alot from these past games but next week is when it really starts for us."

The game against with the Golden Flashes will begin at 4 p.m.
