Thundering Herd Men's Soccer Home for Weekend

10/14/2004

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - After playing five Mid-American Conference games over the last three weekends, the Marshall men's soccer team will take a break from conference play this weekend, hosting non-conference opponents Alabama A&M and Longwood.

The action starts on Saturday when the Herd (5-5-2) will host Alabama A&M. It is scheduled for a 2 p.m. at Sam Hood Field. In their only previous meeting, the Herd shut out the Bulldogs, 1-0 in Mobile, Alabama.

On Sunday, the Lancers of Longwood University will make their first trip to Huntington. Longwood is 1-11 on their season and are coming off of a 3-0 win against Mount St. Mary's on Sunday. This is the first meeting between the two schools. Sunday's game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start, right after the women's game against Central Michigan.

On Wednesday October 20, the Herd will host the Virginia Military Institute. The time for that game has been changed from 7 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sam Hood Field.

Marshall is coming off of a tough MAC weekend. On Friday, the Herd played a tough game against #16 Akron. Both teams fought hard and came out of there with a 0-0 tie. On Sunday, MU traveled to Western Michigan to take on the defending MAC champs, the Broncos. The Herd jumped up 1-0 early in the game, but WMU scored right before the half, and added another at the 58th minute to take the win. Marshall had to play one man down for over a half, which helped WMU to the win.

Both games this weekend will take place at Sam Hood Field. Admission is free.
