Marshall Football Hosts UCF Saturday
10/25/2004
Marshall will look to continue its winning ways when it plays host to UCF, Saturday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and the game will be televised by the Sunshine Network and WSAZ-TV.
The Thundering Herd has won four straight games and remains the only team in the MAC East Division without a loss in conference play. Marshall?s offense came to life in a 48-14 win over Buffalo last week, when seven different Thundering Herd players managed to score touchdowns. Among the stars on offense, was receiver Josh Davis who recorded his 11th career 100-yard game and now enters the UCF game needing only nine catches to break Darius Watts?s Marshall and MAC record for receptions (272). Stan Hill also got on track with a strong, 19-of-26 for 269 yards and four touchdowns, performance. Defensively, Lombardi Award Semifinalist and All-America candidate Jonathan Goddard continued to shine by posting nine tackles, forcing two fumbles, and recording a sack in the win. Goddard continues to lead the nation in sacks (10.5) and ranks among the national leaders in tackles for a loss (16.5), forced fumbles (5), and defensive touchdowns (2).
UCF, under the direction of first year head coach George O?Leary, enters the contest with out a win on the season. The Golden Knightsare, however, a dangerous foe that continues to improve each week. The Knights are led by sophomore quarterback Stephen Moffett who ranks ninth in the MAC in total offense with 196.3 yards per game. Moffett is 101-of-155 for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns on the season. In addition to Moffett, UCF running back Alex Haynes averages 86.4 yards on the ground each game and has three scores on the season. Defensively, UCF is led by Stanford Rhule and his 48 tackles.
Saturday?s game will be the last meeting between the two schools as MAC members. Marshall and UCF will both begin competition in Conference USA in 2005.
