HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Pawel Otachel scored ten minutes into the second half for Illinois-Chicago to give them a 2-1 lead which they would hold on to and defeat the Thundering Herd, 2-1, Friday night at Sam Hood Field.

"It is a disappointing loss," Herd coach Bob Gray said. "It was a tough game, we just have to come out on Sunday and be better prepared."

Marshall (9-7-2, 3-2-1 MAC) came out shooting, notching out-shooting UIC (5-9-2) 7-3 in the first half, but UIC capitalized on their chances first when Eric Cervantes scored 18 minutes into the game.

The Herd kept battling, and their efforts paid off when Karim Boukhemis (Huntington, WV) scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a great pass from Nicholas Ademolu (Windsor, Ont.).

Ademolu was coming up the middle and snuck a pass to Boukhemis through the UIC defense. Boukhemis maneuvered around a few UIC players and took a shot, which found the back of the net. The goal came at the 28 minute mark.

Just ten minutes into the second half, Pawel Otachel scored what would later be the game winner. He took a wide open shot from about ten yards out.

MU had a few chances in the final minutes, but Jeff Engelbrecht was strong in net for the Flames, making seven saves on eight shots. He was able to stop all of Marshall's chances and help UIC to the win.

The Flames out-shot Marshall, 12-9 in the second half. For the game, Marshall tallied 16 shots to 15 by UIC.

Junior Kirk Gibson (Allen, TX) led the way for the Herd with three shots. Three players had two shots a piece.

On Sunday, Marshall will finish up the regular season with a meeting against Radford University. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at Sam Hood Field. There will also be a special promotion with the first 100 children receiveing a bag of candy.

Sunday will also mark Senior Day as Marshall's four seniors, Firas Al-Samarraie (Malmoe, Sweden), Mike Barbera (Huntington, WV), Salvador Djeukeng (Yaounde, Cameroon) and Craig Hettlinger (Barboursville, WV) will be honored before the game.
