HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Marshall University men's soccer team is preparing for an important Mid-American Conference weekend starting Friday when they host the Akron Zips.
Marshall (5-4-1, 2-1-0 MAC) is coming off of an impressive 3-1 win over Northern Illinois on Sunday. The Thundering Herd is third in the conference entering the weekend and has its chance to make a statement heading down the stretch.
The weekend starts when the Akron Zips (7-2-1, 2-0-0 MAC) travel to Huntington to play at 5 p.m on Friday. The Zips are currently ranked #16 in the country in the Soccer America Poll. This will mark the third nationally ranked team the Herd has faced this season.
Akron has won its last three games, including a 2-1 win against PAC 10 power Washington. The Zips have won the lsat four meetings between the two teams, including a 1-0 win last season in Akron.
Marshall will finish up the weekend with a trip to the defending MAC champion Western Michigan Broncos. The Broncos (2-6-0, 0-2-0 MAC) have struggled this season, losing their first two MAC games against Kentucky and Northern Illinois.
WMU fell to Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sunday by a 1-0 score. In last season's meeting, Western Michigan, led by a hat trick by Jeff Hughes, was on the winning end of a 4-1 decision.
