Herd Tennis Tops 65th UC Irvine, 6-1

IRVINE, Calif. - The Marshall University women?s tennis team defeated 65th ranked UC Irvine 6-1 today, at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
Marshall (9-3, 1-0 MAC) for the sixth time this season started of the match by sweeping the doubles point. In the number one doubles slot, 13th ranked senior Jessica Johnson (Sewickly, Pa.) and junior Ashley Kroh (Louisville, Ky.) defeated 48th ranked Tiffany Chang and Anna Bentzer 9-7. This is the duo?s 11th consecutive win and fourth over a ranked opponent. Senior Alice Sukner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and junior Lille Nzudie (Douala, Cameroon) downed Christie Posner and Kristina Boss 8-5 in the number two doubles slot. To wrap up the sweep for the Herd senior Meghan Skalsky (East Lansing, Mich.) and junior Danielle Hock (Wiggin, England) topped UC Irvine?s Hui Leow and Jayme Hu 8-6.
UC Irvine?s (7-6) Bentzer won the only point for the ?Eaters, edging out Johnson, 6-2, 2-6, (10-8) in the number one singles position. In the number two singles slot, Sukner was victorious over Chang in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Hock also battled Kelly Savin to a three set victory, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the number six slot. Other Thundering Herd victors include Kroh in the number three position, Nzudie in the number four position and junior Joelle Good (Zurich, Switzerland) in the number five position.
Marshall will return to action on Friday, March 19, when they face Richmond at 2:00 p.m. at the Marshall University Tennis Courts.
